People we’ve met who are making a difference

Every Friday, we meet as a club to distribute food to community fridges in Brooklyn. And every week, we learn more about the magnitude of food insecurity in New York City. Over 1 million New Yorkers are food insecure, and 1 in 5 children don’t have access to the food they need. However, thanks to the work of community volunteers, progress is being made. The stories below highlight some of the incredible people we’ve met and had the opportunity to learn from.

Asmeret Berhe-Lumax is the founder of One Love Community Fridge in Brooklyn and the mentor of our club. Over the past four years, she has made a significant impact in our community. Click below to learn about her story.

Meet Brendan

Brendan is the secretary and coordinator of Fort Fridge in Washington Heights. We met him while distributing food with Grassroots Grocery. Learn what he has to say about combating food insecurity and rally volunteers.
